We get some common questions from people inquiring about counseling.  If you have other questions besides these or need further information, please reach out to us via email below.

Do I need counseling?

The fact that you've found yourself clicking here says you're looking to change something in your life.  Something's not working; it's not the way you want it to be.  You're not alone.  Everyone goes through difficult times.  While you may have been able to handle things on your own before, maybe this time you need a helping hand.  Counseling can give you short-term support and direction, and the tools needed to manage your life and relationships for the long term.

What happens during counseling?

Typically we'll talk together about the things happening in your life - the crisis or feelings you're facing.  We'll also touch on things that may have happened in the past that may be contributing to your current challenges.  Our goal is to help you understand your own life better and figure out what you want your new life to look like.  Then we'll make a plan to chart a new direction and apply your insights into your daily life and relationships.

Is everything we talk about confidential?

Yes, everything we talk about is held in strictest confidence.  Counselors are legally and ethically bound to maintain confidentiality, unless express written permission is given by the client to share that information with specific others.  The only exceptions to confidentiality are when there is any form of child or elder abuse; or when someone is a serious threat to harm themselves or someone else.  In those cases, counselors are legally required to report to the appropriate authorities.

How much does it cost?

James maintains a very full and limited practice, therefore he may not always be able meet immediately, or at a time of the week that you need.  He does maintain a waiting list should he not be available to meet with you in the short-term.  Rates are $195-250 per hour, according to people's ability to pay.  Payments are accepted by check, credit card, mobile pay or cash, and are due at the end of each session.  Because of scheduling demands, we do have a 48-hour cancellation policy in order that others can be seen if you are not able to make your appointment.

Do you take insurance?

We do not work directly as a "provider" for any insurance companies, however depending upon your insurance plan, you may be able to obtain "out-of-network" reimbursements for counseling received.  We are happy to provide any documentation requested by your insurance company so you can file and receive benefits from them.
